   I have the same question—I’m leaning towards yes as it was also a word to refer to an individual as a “non-greek”. My father’s name is Bárbaro and he wished to name me Barbara, but my mother named me after herself. To be fair, they didn’t have much time to think of a name as I was 3mo premature!

   I have the same question. I am leaning towards yes. The term Bárbaro or Barbara referred to “non-Greeks”. My father’s middle name is Bárbaro. He wished to name me Barbara, but my mother named me after herself. To be fair, my parents didn’t have much time to name me as I was 3mo premature. Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded both names. I have no middle name.
